Ocular thermal burn caused by explosion egg
Ocular thermal burn caused by explosion eggs
This is my second encounter patient of ocular thermal burn caused by explosion egg. The difference between them is that the eggs, one was peeled off and another was not.
The first patient I met told me the story that he broke the egg, placed it in the container and then placed it into a microwave oven, waiting for his delicious meal. But what wait for him was the heated egg exploded. The egg pieces rushed towards the patient’s face, causing facial thermal burns, of course, also led to the eyelids, conjunctiva and corneal thermal burns. Patients often pain.
The patient was difficult to open his eyes, sensitive to light, and with a large number of tears. You can observe the patient’s facial blisters and skin shedding with basal red, that indicate that it was a superficial second degree burns, not serious. Also the patient’s eyelid swelling, conjunctival edema and corneal epithelial shedding. The epithelial shedding is the main cause of patients feel very painful and photophobia. Your focus is to observe whether there have limbal ischemia as well as the degree of anterior chamber inflammation reaction.
The second patient, had the similar experience in the first one. At this time, in addition to observation of limbal blood supply, but also to exclude intraocular foreign body is vital. Because the explosion of energy will be passed on egg shells, high-speed egg shells may be access into the eye, leading to intraocular foreign body problem. You need to give the patient an orbital CT scan to confirm the diagnosis.

Treatment Skills:
1. Open the lid, if necessary, with the open-eyelid blepharostat(eye-speculum). Corneal damage status, and the blood supply of the corneal limbus. Remove any foreign matter, or use physiological saline to wash the capsule of the conjunctiva.
2. Dose antibiotics eyes drops and gels, such as Cravit eyes drops(Levofloxacin Eve Drops). Do not use glucocorticoid eye drops, as it would lead to corneal epithelial cells difficult to heal, secondary infection or corneal dissolution. When the epithelial cells are smooth, you could use some.
3. Use eye drops of promoting corneal epithelial growth, such as bFGF eye drops or gel. It is best to use gel kind.
4. Vitamin C is very important. Think of its role?
5. Systemic application of antibiotics is also permitted.
The above is my treatment method of such patients. Have anything of supplement or complement?
Caution: Remember do not use microwave oven to boil eggs. Crazy eggs!
