How to install ubuntu 10.04(Lucid Lynx) with your usb media?
I bought a new laptop to replace my old one that is so slow when executing programms. But the new one does not have cdrom and pre-existed operation system. I couldn’t borrow external cdrom driver. So I decided to install my linux system using usb media. I failed on the first day when I bought the new laptop. And the follow day was my duty. So till late today, I successfully installed the operation system for my laptop. The steps were:
1. Prepare two usb keys for more than 1G space.
2. Use usboot software to creat a bootable usb key to DOS system.
3. Downlad grub4dos to your usb key.
4. Download .iso file of ubuntu or archlinux into your another usb key. I don’t know why when I put the initrd.gz and vmlinuz with .iso file together on the same usb key the install process can’t continue!! And you should choose ‘unmount’ option to unmount the usb key that contains vmlinuz and initrd file when install.
4. Downlaod hd-media installer vmlinuz and initrd.gz to your usb key.
5. Set your computer’s first BIOS boot order is usb.
6. Restart your computer and enjoy installing now.

A 15 years old boy with traffic accident injury was sent by his uncle to me. The boy with compound cranial&facial fractures and leakage of cerebrospinal fluid was transfered from emergency department and still conscious . I slightly opened the both eyes. I found the right eye with no light perception, severe conjunctiva edema, intact cornea, existing anterior chamber, dilation of the pupil, and no red reflex of the fundus. The CT showed bulk hemorrhage and perhaps the blood was from the sub choriod. The left eye was not seen intactly. Uveal coat was exposed outside of the conjunctiva capsule. I performed urgent surgery on this boy. The surgery was well done. But what left to him was a blind world.

Retinal detachment repair after Lasik surgery and a punch
A middle age man with high myopia received Lasik refractive surgery 7 years ago. Two year ago, he found his right eye felt blur and covered when seeing. He went to us, and was told that there was a large hole in his right eye and most of his retina was detached. We performed vitrectomy on him and injected silicon oil in his eye. After we extracted the silicon oil out of the eye 8 months later, a large scar on the retina was found and a small region of retina didn’t adhere firmly to the inner eye wall. So we injected C3F8 to fill up the space in the eye to support the retina. The retina was repaired at this time. Recently, about half a year ago, his right eye was accidently punched by her wife and cause lower retina detached! And we found a small hole in the lower quadrant. This time we performed scleral buckling and pneumatic retinopexy. High intraocular pressure existed for nearly a week after surgery. But now it is normal and the retina was adherent.

Anterior chamber depth vanished after Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation
A 80 years old woman came to me with neovascular glaucoma of her right eye. There were a lot of new vessels on her iris surface. She dinied hypertension and diabetes. Three months ago, she felt blur and aggravated with no light perception one and half months ago. The intraocular pressure was over 60mmHg and she just felt a little eye swelling and lacrimation. We performed Ahmed glaucoma valve implantation on her several days ago. On the first two days after surgery, the anterior chamber was good and valve implantation was patency. But yesterday, the anterior chamber depth were getting shallower and shallower. At last vanished today. The valve implantation tube touched the surface of anterior capsule of the lens. But the woman didn’t feel abnormal. We postulated that the function of ciliary body had been in devitalization.

I am preparing to design my own website temple from now on. I know it is a long period and depended on my spare time and energy. My code writting tool is Vim. Operation system is ubuntu 10.04 LTS. Datebase software is Mysql and Webserver is Apache.

Could gecko differentiate colors?
I read a paper of “The pupils and optical systems of gecko eyes.” written by Roth, L. S., L. Lundstrom, et al. (2009).
It is interesting:
The nocturnal helmet gecko, Tarentola chazaliae, discriminates colors in dim moonlight when humans are color blind. The sensitivity of the helmet gecko eye has been calculated to be 350 times higher than human cone vision at the color vision threshold. The optics and the large cones of the gecko are important reasons why they can use color vision at low light intensities. Using photorefractometry and an adapted laboratory Hartmann-Shack wavefront sensor of high resolution, we also show that the optical system of the helmet gecko has distinct concentric zones of different refractive powers, a so-called multifocal optical system. The intraspecific variation is large but in most of the individuals studied the zones differed by 15 diopters. This is of the same magnitude as needed to focus light of the wavelength range to which gecko photoreceptors are most sensitive. We compare the optical system of the helmet gecko to that of the diurnal day gecko, Phelsuma madagascariensis grandis. The optical system of the day gecko shows no signs of distinct concentric zones and is thereby monofocal.
