NOKIA smartphone operating system in transition
NOKIA, Samsung, and so on Symbian OS are an closed source systems. For several years, it has been ranked No. 1 in the global market share, but decreased year by year recently. In 2007 its market share was about 60%, to this year may be will reduce to 50% or less. NOKIA, Samsung, are embarking on transformation. NOKIA launched an open source Linux-based system, called Maemo, proposed it as the main product in 2010. And in 2012 NOKIA would completely reject the use of the Symbian system N series. Samsung introduced an open Linux-basedopen-source system, Bada, is planning to completely abandon the Symbian system in 2011.
Windows Mobile (WM) platform, already dead?
This title was made by a magazine in United States. WM is also a Microsoft operating system which is a not open source systems. WM’s market share is in decline in recent years. ‘WM in the global smartphone market share from 13.9% in 2002 down to 9% in 2008′; the U.S. market research firm Canalys said. ‘ WM in global market share from 7% this February to 4% August ‘; Admob the company’s data showed. ‘ San Francisco Chronicle ‘,’ Seattle Post-Intelligencer ‘were lamenting:’ Now it is hard to see Microsoft’s shadown in the smart mobile phone market.’ WM in the smart phone market has been losing its competitive edge ‘,’ PC World ‘with the text:’ Microsoft in the mobile space has run out of do?
Google Android mobile phone operating system platform in the risen
Google released the Android open-source Linux-based operating system platform in November 2006. Released the first Android smart phone (G1) in September 2008. Some people said, Android was not well known before 2008, but rised up sharply in 2009. It is estimated that there will be more than 40 varieties of Android smart phones in market by 2010. Android market share soared in the short period.Gartner forecasts it will be from the No. 6 ranking last year to upgrade to the first two in 2012 .
Apple iPhone is leading the development trend of smart phones
Apple introduced the iPhone, that has features avant-garde, interface smooth, stylish design, hardware and software in good combination, excellent network services features. Also it has broad software support (such as 3D game, the reality enhancement software, access maps, push messaging, etc.) in its application software store (ie, iPhone, App Store). It leads the development trend of smart phones. iPhone3GS, Black Berry-2, Palm pre (Web OS) and Android2.0, these four brands are being heatedcompetition; iPhone operating system is not a open source system.
The growth of Linux smart phone
Except the Linux-based Android, Maemo, Bada and other open-source operating system, outside, Gartner referred to ‘other Linux operating systems,’ are also in the development of high-speed growth. The so-called ‘other Linux operating systems’ refers to the Linux systems developed by NTT Docomo, NEC, Panasonic, Access (Palm Source) , and Motorola developed a different Linux system from Android (Droid), Nokia developed a different Linux system from Daemo.
Two trends : Open-source technology and fashion-oriented
Open source-based smart phone operating system is the development trend. From the data Gartner predicted in 2012, considering the development, transition and other factors, open-source operating system market share will reach about 60%.Smart phone operating system platform, because of its openness, would attract third-party developers, handset manufacturers and users of strong concern. Fashion is also a development trend of smart phone operating system.Even Microsoft executives also believe that Microsoft has failed to meet the development trend of modern mobile phones, failed to meet the development of consumer-level applications, while Apple’s success lies in the consumer market, they are innovative, the pursuit of fashion. Here Microsoft is conservative, and behind.
